Grocers Supply To Sell Its Wholesale Operations To C&S Wholesale Grocers

Grocers Supply, one of the largest private companies in Houston, has sold its wholesale business to an East Coast supplier, marking the end of nearly a century as a family-owned distributor to independent retail stores in Texas and Oklahoma.

Keene, N.H.-based C&S Wholesale Grocers, the nation's largest wholesale grocery supplier, announced Monday that it will take over Grocers Supply's distribution and supply business, which serves 900 independent grocery stores and is the biggest wholesaler in Texas.

Founded in Houston in 1923, Grocers Supply had $3.5 billion in revenue last year and is known as a leading distributor of Hispanic grocery products in the country, focusing on Texas-grown and Texas-made merchandise including grocery, general merchandise and health care and beauty products.
