State fisheries biologists have set the total allowable catch for tanner crab at 8,480,000 pounds in the eastern sector and 6,625,000 pounds in the western sector, up from 1,463,000 pounds and 1,645,000 pounds respectively just a year ago.
The Bristol Bay red king crab TAC also was up, and the Saint Matthew Island blue king crab fishery, which was closed in 2013, will be open too come Oct. 15.
For the Eastern Bering Sea, the TAC for individual fishing quota holders is 7,632,000 pounds, up from 1,316,700 pounds, and 848,000 pounds for community development quota groups. Last year in the Eastern Bering Sea, the TAC was 1,316,700 pounds for IFQ permit holders and 146,300 pounds for CDQ groups.
