WASHINGTON – Fresh Food Manufacturing, a Freedom, Pa., establishment, is recalling approximately 1,008 pounds of Italian Style Wedding Soup due to misbranding and undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. The soup contains soy and egg, known allergens which are not declared on the product label.
The following product is subject to recall:
- 24-oz. cups of “GIANT EAGLE MARKET DISTRICT ITALIAN STYLE WEDDING SOUP.”
The ingredients panel on the back of the soup cup is from a chili product that the company also produces at the facility. The chili label does not list soy and egg, which are ingredients in the Italian Style Wedding Soup.
The product subject to recall bears the establishment number “EST. 40211” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The product was produced on Oct. 9, 2014, and shipped to retail stores in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The problem was discovered when a store employee noticed that the back label was different from the other labels on the product.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
