AZUSA, Calif. – The Garden Writers Association (GWA), a professional organization for U.S. and Canadian garden communicators, awarded the Wilfred J. Jung Distinguished Service Medal to Monrovia for promoting gardening in North America, helping expand the profession of garden communications and supporting the goals of GWA. Candidates are nominated by the membership, recommended by an honors committee and elected by the board of directors.
Nicholas Staddon, Monrovia’s spokesperson, accepted the award at GWA’s annual symposium last month. The Distinguished Service Medal was created in 1992, and named after a longtime executive director of GWA. Past honorees have included Proven Winners, All-America Rose Selections, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Chanticleer, Fiskars, Gardener Supply Company, Longwood Gardens, Miracle-Gro and Burpee Seeds.
“Monrovia is honored to receive this prestigious award,” said Staddon. “We believe in providing gardeners – both seasoned veterans and novices alike – with ideas and inspiration, and nurturing their love of plants and beautiful landscapes.”
At the same event, Monrovia earned a Silver Media Award for the best overall eNewsletter. This is the second GWA award for Monrovia’s Plant Savvy newsletter.
