Fort Myers, Fla. — January 21, 2010 — Philadelphia-based premium deli meat & cheese company Dietz & Watson donated $5,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Southwest Florida (breast cancer research) last week.
The donation was made on the heels of incidents in SW Florida where a small army of Boars Head deli meat company representatives disrupted Dietz & Watson cancer fundraising events in Port Charlotte, Fort Myers and Fort Myers Beach on December 5, 2009. Florida consumers witnessed these shocking strong-arm tactics first-hand, and the incident was covered extensively by Fort Myers and other Florida media.
A representative from Dietz & Watsons distributor in SW Florida, Mike Griffin, made the donation last week and presented a check to Miriam Ross, Komens SW Florida executive director. Because of the disruptions caused by Boars Head, Dietz & Watson president and CEO Louis Eni decided to more than double the amount that was raised at the five charity events through sales of Dietz & Watson gourmet franks.
While holding events to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Dietz & Watson, the nations second largest deli meat company, faced an onslaught of disruption at five separate event sites by rival company Boars Head as they sent a fleet of nearly 40 large box trucks and vans to cause overall chaos and intimidate Dietz & Watson event staffers and store owners. The large box trucks and vans quickly filled and blocked parking lots and several of them were blowing their powerful air horns. When a county sheriffs deputy appeared on the scene at two of the locations, the trucks moved on to disrupt Dietz & Watson fundraising events in other locations.
