The Organic Trade Association (OTA) has appointed Melody Meyer, UNFI Vice President for Policy and Industry Relations, to a three-year term on the organization’s Board of Directors. She was reelected to the Board for her third term, most recently serving as President from 2013-2014.
“It is my honor to serve the organic community with another three year commitment on the OTA board. By growing and protecting organic we can transform the way we farm and the way we eat, towards a more sustainable future," said Melody Meyer.
The OTA represents over 6,500 businesses in the organic industry in North America. Its mission is to promote and protect the growth of organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy.
Meyer joins other members of the OTA Board of Directors including Melissa Hughes of Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative, President, Sarah Bird of Annie’s, Inc., Vice President, and Dag Falack of Nature’s Path Foods, Vice President. The new Board was seated during the OTA’s Annual Meeting at Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore, MD.
Meyer comes to the new role with more than 37 years of experience in the organic and natural foods industry, including nine years in international trade and development. She currently serves as Executive Director of the UNFI Foundation, and sits on the California Department of Food and Agriculture Organic Products Advisory Board and The Organic Center Board of Trustees.
