It really is all about the how. How we make our bread (and profits) is the true bottom line for us. Period. The monks will never compromise their mission to grow or become more profitable.
One of the key aspects of the mission is to put people ahead of profit. And by people, we mean not only our Trappists and employees, but also our distributors, retailers and customers. Indeed, the entire community.
We've turned down lucrative opportunities because they didn't fit who we are and how we make bread. They would have conflicted with our mission, cause disruption in operations, or tension among our people. So they simply weren't worth it.
