Carolina Premium Foods To Restart Production In Old Townsend Chicken Plant

A startup poultry production company from Moore County has been awarded a $750,000 grant from the N.C. Rural Infrastructure Authority to open a new chicken processing line in Siler City.

Carolina Premium Foods, based in Whispering Pines, has signed a deal to lease the 95,500-square-foot former Townsend Chicken Plant facility on East Third Street in Siler City that's been mostly vacant the past three years.

The company plans to invest $4 million in renovating and equipping the building with two new production lines, according to a news release from the Rural Infrastructure Authority. Carolina Premium Foods has also committed to creating 38 full-time jobs, which could grow to more than 300 jobs over the next five years.
