Belgian food retailer Delhaize Group will shutter 15 Food Lion and one Bloom store as part of a U.S. restructuring plan.
Delhaize Group (NYSE:DEG) is the corporate parent of Delhaize America Inc. of Salisbury, which owns the Food Lion and Bloom supermarket chains.
The company says its decision to close the underperforming stores will favorably impact our operating profit from 2010 onwards.
A spokeswoman says none of the stores slated for closure are in North Carolina. Affected employees can apply for other positions within the company, she says.
