SAN FRANCISCO — After a two-week season break, California’s commercial salmon fishermen are thrilled to again debut some of the season’s best catch of wild California King Salmon! In fact, chefs, foodies and salmon lovers everywhere can again enjoy some of the best-tasting salmon in the world, available right in their local grocery stores, fish markets and restaurants.
From May through September, the chilly ocean waters off California’s coast will yield the King, also known as the Chinook salmon, where it swims freely and is considered among the most delectable salmon in the world. California is the leading state for producing wild King salmon that are caught on barbless hooks, and the state’s salmon fishermen are encouraging consumers to seek out and buy California King salmon for its superior taste, texture and health benefits.
“Our state’s hardworking salmon fishermen are eager to get back on their boats and continue with what we hope will be a successful 2014 California King salmon commercial season,” said David Goldenberg, chief executive officer of the California Salmon Council. He added, “We also want to encourage Californians everywhere to ask their grocers, fish purveyors and local chefs for California King Salmon, not only to support our local economy but because our salmon have superior taste, texture and health benefits.”
