Saputo announced Friday it has resumed accepting milk from Chilliwack Cattle Sales, the B.C. farm where workers were caught on undercover video allegedly beating cows, but the dairy giant is calling for stronger legal protections for cattle in the province.
The decision came after the company agreed to 24-hour video surveillance of animal care practices and a slew of other changes aimed at preventing further incidents, according to the B.C. Dairy Association.
“Saputo has stressed the need for significant changes to B.C. law relating to enforceable animal welfare standards,” read a company news release.
