Two local companies are teaming up in a deal that puts a Silicon Alley spin on the "locavore" trend.
Long Island City-based online grocer FreshDirect will announce Thursday that it has entered into a partnership with AccelFoods, a newly-launched accelerator and investment fund focused on early stage food and beverage startups. As part of their alliance, FreshDirect will co-host the first AccelFoods demo day on June 3, offering a platform for four startups chosen and mentored by AccelFoods over the last five months.
The companies selected by AccelFoods as part of its inaugural class offer products ranging from ready-made coffee beverages to high-protein snack foods made from dried and milled crickets. Each was given $200,000 in funding and mentored by a group of venture capital and food industry professionals over the course of the five-month accelerator program.
