Boulder, Colorado – Kim and Jake’s, one of the most acclaimed gluten-free bakeries in the United States, will be showcasing its cookies, breads and cakes during the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, June 20-22.
“We are thrilled to return to Aspen for Food & Wine,” said Jake Rosenbarger, the former pro cyclist and chef who, with his wife Kim, opened Kim and Jake’s in 2010. “And we are grateful to Whole Foods Market, which carries a number of our products, for inviting us to their big party.”
Whole Foods Market will feature the bakery’s celebrated cookies at the popular Whole Foods Market party, scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Mountain Chalet in Aspen. The travel division at Whole Foods Market, Whole Journeys, has also handpicked select Colorado food companies to showcase at the event. Kim & Jake’s will be featured in the main tent. In addition, Kim and Jake’s will participate in parties during the event.
Kim and Jake’s, recently featured in Food & Wine, The Denver Post, eater.com, 5280 magazine and The Daily Camera, opened its doors in 2010 and almost immediately became Boulder’s No. 1 bakery. But less than two years after opening, Jake was diagnosed with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition in which the gluten found in wheat and some other grains spark allergic reactions. He had to keep baking – the bakery is the family’s livelihood – but because of the wheat in the bakery he had to wear a Hazmat mask while making his breads and cakes.
The whole time he experimented with gluten-free baking, though, and in the spring of 2014 Kim and Jake’s eliminated wheat from the bakery and turned 100 percent gluten-free. The bakery sells its products at the Boulder bakery, through the website, at Whole Foods Markets in the Rocky Mountain region, and at a variety of restaurants, including Pizzeria Locale (a fast-casual pizza partnership involving Chipotle founder Steve Ells) and The Kitchen, a fast-growing family of community-oriented restaurants based in Boulder.
