INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Last week, The Produce Mom visited Nature Fresh Farms in Leamington, Ontario, to learn more about their environmentally-friendly greenhouse growing practices in order to educate consumers. As one of the largest greenhouse growers in North America, the Nature Fresh Farms greenhouses produce 0% water waste while using 95% less water than traditional farming.
“My visit to Nature Fresh Farms was eye-opening and I was blown away with their commitment to innovation and excellence. The trip deepened my knowledge about greenhouses and I look forward to sharing what I learned with The Produce Mom followers,” said Lori Taylor, The Produce Mom.
One of the benefits of greenhouse growing is environmental sustainability. Nature Fresh Farms is able to control temperature, humidity and growing medium, resulting in higher yields with much less water than traditional farms. Specific areas where Nature Fresh Farms has implemented emerging greenhouse science are traceability, food safety, water usage and pest control.
“It was great to have Lori Taylor, The Produce Mom, visit Nature Fresh Farms and get a good look at what happens under all that glass. As she experienced, growing peppers and tomatoes in a controlled environment takes a lot of effort from a solid cast of passionate experts,” said Ray Wowryk, Director of Business Development, Nature Fresh Farms.
