Consumers Packing Company Adds Incentives For Employees

Melrose Park, Illinois – Consumers Packing Company, Inc. announced a new wage increase to incentivize valued employees of the family-owned purveyor of quality meats and specialty items. Starting in March 2014, the company upped its minimum pay from $8.55 per hour to $10.50.

“Our company had employee turnover and with the government pushing for an increase in minimum wages, we thought why not be proactive ahead of our competitors and offer higher wages that will attract well qualified personnel,” says Mike McKee, Consumers Packing Company Vice President and Plant Manager. “As expected, our company saw an immediate positive response, and obviously our employees old and new loved our decision.”

With over 65 workers, the $1.95 per hour increase meant a significant bump in payroll expenses, but this change has made Consumers Packing more competitive with area employers while greatly improving the stability of its workforce. Since the minimum wage went into effect, the company has seen significant improvement in employee satisfaction and realized a reduction in turnover.

“The loyalty the Schutz family provides to its employees makes us different. This company is top notch,” McKee adds. “I am especially proud of our beautiful Melrose Park facility, which is over 63,000 square feet in size and gives our company the ability to inventory a massive amount of fresh product that insures top quality with proper extended aging, something significantly different than our local competition.”

Established in 1956, and purchased in 1991 by William Schutz and family, Consumers Packing Company, Inc. has been a leading provider with quality products to national and international steak users, producing USDA Prime and USDA Choice along with premium “Five Star” Branded products that are reliable and of the highest quality. www.consumerspacking.com
