Beef checkoff research and experience with millennials tells us clearly that we must reach them where they live – and millennials live on their mobile devices and social networks. In fact, almost 70 percent of millennials say they go first to the Internet when they need information about anything – including beef. To our benefit, millennials also are much more likely to SHARE what they learn and much more likely to buy a product or food that their friends recommend on social media.
In an effort to reach millennials where they ‘live’ and capitalize on their strong likeliness to share what they learn and do, the checkoff’s Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative program is gearing up to launch the “Share Your Sizzle” beef photo contest with Northeast shoppers by partnering with 10 regional retail chains totaling 158 retail locations from May 23 until August 7.
Participating retailers will receive on-pack promotional recipe labels, electronic artwork and a sample social media library of posts to support the contest. Shoppers, especially millennials, will be encouraged to purchase and cook with beef at home this summer and share a photo of their meal on the Northeast Loves Beef Facebook Photo Contest App. On August 7, 10 photo finalists will be chosen and fans will be encouraged to vote for the winning photo until August 29. One grand prize winning photo will be voted on to win a $500 grocery gift card and three runner-up photos will be selected to win a $100 grocery gift card. Stay tuned for more #ShareYourSizzle beef photo contest highlights from the Northeast this summer!

The Beef Checkoff Program was established as part of the 1985 Farm Bill. The checkoff assesses $1 per head on the sale of live domestic and imported cattle, in addition to a comparable assessment on imported beef and beef products. States retain up to 50 cents on the dollar and forward the other 50 cents per head to the Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board, which administers the national checkoff program, subject to USDA approval.
