There are only 57 Master Cheesemakers in the United States and as of last night two of them reside in Door County. Brian and Chris Renard from Renard’s Cheese on County Highway S received a pair of medals, a lapel pin, and a Master Cheesemakers ring.
The International Cheese Expo was held at the Milwaukee Center Thursday night and the Renard’s stole the show. Each Master Cheesemaker needs a mentor to enroll in the program. Brian’s mentor was his father Howard who opened Renard’s Cheese on County Highway S in 1961.
Brian told DoorCountyDailyNews.com it was a true honor to have his father at the awards ceremony to be recognized with the man that started the business and taught Brian about cheese making from a very young age.
