Demand Increases For Lipman’s Ripe Bites & Crimson Queen Tomato Varieties

IMMOKALEE, Fla. – Lipman, North America’s largest open field tomato grower, is enjoying a surge in demand for its recently introduced Ripe Bites grape and Crimson Queen round tomato varieties. Key reasons for the popularity include high flavor, deep red hue and high lycopene levels.

“Our Ripe Bites and Crimson Queen varieties answer the call from today’s consumers and foodservice customers who are looking for great tasting, healthy, colorful and fresh tomatoes,” said Darren Micelle, Chief Operating Officer.

Since debuting in October, the Crimson Queen and Ripe Bites tomato varieties are making a huge impact on our customers and continue to grow in popularity.

Ripe Bites are greenhouse raised which protects this tomato variety and allows for its desirable high-sugar content.

In addition to the benefit of high flavor, Crimson Queen tomatoes also have higher lycopene levels, thanks to the crimson gene. This variety also has the same characteristics that make round tomatoes popular with foodservice operators and consumer alike: round shape, durable skin and long shelf life.

“Tomato enthusiasts will be glad to know our spring harvest is strong and plentiful – and we’ll continue to be able to provide plenty of Ripe Bites and Crimson Queen tomatoes throughout the growing season,” added Micelle. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer a product that meets the needs of both our consumers and foodservice operators.”
