WF&FSA Presdient Tom Figueroa Honored With Special Recognition Award By MFA

Tom Figueroa, AIFD, MCF, has been honored with the 2014 Special Recognition Award by the Michigan Floral Association. The presentation was made at the Great Lakes Floral Expo held at the Amway Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI.

Figueroa started in the industry at a young age working for Touch of Glass in Trenton, MI.  He has been with wholesale distributor Nordlie's, Inc. for over 20 years serving as hard goods manager in Detroit, branch manager in Flint and Detroit and currently Vice President, Michigan.  Recently he was named the President of the Wholesale Florist and Florist Suppliers Association.

He has been dedicated to the Michigan Floral Association for many years and believes in growing and improving the industry and its associations by contributing  his time and knowledge.

He has served on the  MFA Strategic Planning Committee spearheading several ideas to keep the association moving forward, with a positive and upbeat approach. Basically, he never says “no” but rather “how can I help” and can always be counted on to put forward his best effort.

Each year the MFA Awards and Nominations Committee is responsible for soliciting and reviewing award nominations.  The committee sends all qualified nominations to a panel of independent judges who evaluate and complete an evaluation form for each nominee.  The committee then totals the points received for each candidate nominated in a specific category and averages.  The candidate receiving the highest average score in each category is then chosen to receive the award.
