In April the Fern is the Houseplant of the month. The Fern family is a large group of plants and has a range of varieties with different names. The most well-known is the Nephrolepis or Boston Fern. This Fern is easy to care for, purifies the air and creates a high level of humidity, therefore a welcome plant for in the home.
Leaves which roll out from a curl
Many Ferns have leaves which roll out from a curl. When the leaf has rolled out, each variety has its own unique characteristics such as colour and volume. Leaf colours vary from light green and silver grey to dark green and from reddish to deep bronze. The shapes of the leaves also vary, from completely closed leaves such as the Asplenium to the deeply cut in types such as Nephrolepis or Adianthum. Even the hardness of the leaves vary, a very versatile family!
