The owners of a popular bakery said this week they are still considering building a new production facility in the hamlet of Riverside, though they are now exploring other and potentially cheaper options.
Keith Kouris, who runs the artisan bread and dessert business Blue Duck Bakery Cafe with his wife, Nancy, and their family, explained that they have outgrown their production facility in Southold, and had been thinking about building a new one in the town’s Enterprise Zone, located off Flanders Road in Riverside. They also run a bakery cafe on Main Street in Riverhead and another on Hampton Road in Southampton Village, where the company began in 1999.
Though they had plans—and an informal contract—in 2012 to purchase two vacant properties measuring about 2 acres combined from Southampton Town for $450,000 total, Mr. Kouris said Monday that they are now considering a number of other more inexpensive options.
