B.C. Greenhouse Growers Anxious To Dispel Myths, Increase Local Sales

VANCOUVER — B.C.’s greenhouse growers are feeling overlooked by the local food movement, perhaps because their products look just a little too perfect.

The tomatoes are almost impossibly red and round, the peppers and cucumbers are flawless — so much so that some shoppers are suspicious about the methods used to grow them, according to Linda Delli Santi, executive director of the B.C. Greenhouse Growers’ Association.

The message of the association’s new $200,000 awareness campaign: Don’t hate us because we are beautiful.
