LONGUEUIL, QC – On January 31, 2014, Agropur Cooperative held a reception in Quebec City to pay tribute to the members who achieved the highest quality ratings for milk produced in 2013. The Appalaches region winner, Ferme Jovigny inc. represented by David Sévigny and Isabelle Richard, ranked first overall. Ferme Jovigny, located in Nantes, Quebec, is home to a herd of 85 Holsteins. In all, 16 new regional champions who distinguished themselves among all the Agropur members in Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador were inducted into the milk quality Club of Excellence this year.
At the reception, Agropur also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Club of Excellence, founded in 1988, the Cooperative's 50th anniversary year. The Club of Excellence promotes best practices on the farm and fosters awareness of milk quality management issues among Agropur's members, clients, employees and other partners. Since its creation, the Club has welcomed nearly 1,900 recipients to its ranks. By sharing best practices and promoting joint reflection, the Club has not only raised the profile of dairy farmers but has been instrumental in improving the quality of the milk delivered to Agropur plants and in bringing together all the factors that can contribute to maintaining high standards in our industry.
In his address, Agropur President Serge Riendeau commented: "The Club of Excellence has helped instill a culture of milk quality in the organization and I am very proud that our leadership in this area is now recognized in Quebec, the rest of Canada, the U.S. and even overseas."
