Seahawks Business Winners: Albertsons & Grocery Partners Promote Team, Goods

For Albertsons, this year’s partnership with the Seattle Seahawks represents a form of community engagement that wasn’t available to the company in previous years.

Back in 2006, the grocery chain split into two companies, and the SuperValu chain acquired the Northwest stores, with divisional management in Boise, Idaho. But in February 2013, Albertsons LLC repurchased stores that had been sold to SuperValu. Now the Northwest division headquarters is in Portland.

As a result, “We can be more engaged in the community, with decisions made locally,” said Peter Olsen, director of marketing for Albertsons’ Northwest division. When the Seahawks opportunity came along, the company jumped on it.
