BI-LO Partners With Katie’s Krops To Fight Hunger

GREENVILLE, S.C.–BI-LO, LLC is inviting customers to help feed families in need in 2014. BI-LO is partnering with Katie’s Krops, a non-profit organization launched in BI-LO’s own backyard that empowers kids to fight hunger one vegetable garden at a time. Now through Jan. 28, customers can make a donation of any size to Katie’s Krops at any store register when they purchase their groceries.

“We are thrilled to support Katie’s Krops again this year as their core mission perfectly aligns with BI-LO’s mission to eliminate hunger in the neighborhoods we serve,” said Mary Kellmanson, BI-LO’s senior vice president of marketing. “Last year, we partnered with Dole and raised $5,000 for this organization, and we couldn’t be more excited to grow and expand our partnership this year.”

“With BI-LO’s help, we have the amazing opportunity to share our mission with thousands of local families and come closer to reaching our goal – to have at least one garden in every state,” said Katie Stagliano, founder of Katie’s Krops. “Together, we will be able to make a significant impact in the fight against hunger and provide nutritious foods to families in need.”

Katie's Krops currently has more than 61 youth-run gardens growing in 25 states, stretching from Maine to Hawaii. The funds raised through the partnership with BI-LO will be used to help educate and empower kids to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes. Thousands of pounds of healthy food are donated annually to local families in need.

About Katie’s Krops

Katie Stagliano is the young founder of Katie’s Krops. At the age of 9, Katie grew a 40-pound cabbage through a Bonnie Plants program at her school, then donated it to a soup kitchen, where it helped feed hundreds of people. Seeing the impact one cabbage had, she decided to grow a garden and donate the harvest to people in need. This led to the formation of Katie’s Krops, which donates thousands of pounds of healthful food annually and awards grants to kids across the country to do the same thing.
