Metro Will Consolidate Its Dairy Distribution Operations In Its Laval Centre

MONTREAL – Metro Inc. is announcing that it will consolidate its produce and dairy distribution operations in its Laval centre and will transfer the volume of its St-Augustin-de-Desmaures produce distribution centre to that location. The activities of this centre will cease on March 9, 2014.

Major investments would have been required in order to adapt the St-Augustin-de-Desmaures distribution centre to the growth being observed in the produce and dairy categories. Measuring 240,000 square feet, the Laval produce and dairy distribution centre, which opened in the spring of 2013, can take on the additional volume. It uses state-of-the-art technology to ensure product quality, variety, and freshness while at the same time improving the efficiency of the company's distribution chain and our customers' in-store experience.

This is a very difficult decision which impacts 114 of our employees and Metro will work with various stakeholders in order to place as many employees as possible within its operations and to help them through the transition.

The transfer of the volume to the Laval centre, along with the arrival of new products, will result in the creation of over 80 new jobs over time in Laval.
