Smith Dairy Recognized With Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Achievement Award

ATLANTA, GA – Smith Dairy received the 21st Annual NGV Achievement Award during the 2013 North American Natural Gas Vehicle Conference and Expo Awards Banquet held in Atlanta. The Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) Conference and Expo brings together natural gas vehicle professionals to further the cause of getting clean-burning fuel sources on the road.

The NGV Achievement Award honors organizations and individuals for outstanding contributions to the promotion of natural gas as a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly vehicular fuel.

Smith Dairy was recognized for its leadership and results from implementing compressed natural gas (CNG). The recognition was based on additions of dual fuel and dedicated natural gas systems to its truck fleet, a public CNG station, and community outreach and support regarding clean fuel technology.

“We’re truly honored to be recognized as an industry leader as implementing natural gas into our fleet operations is a core part of the Smith Dairy strategy. We’re very pleased to partner with EcoDual and have our trucks powered by their MAX/SRTM Dual Fuel System. Working with EcoDual is allowing us to reach our goals of a greener fleet with a rapid return on investment,” said Chuck Diehl, Fleet Manager for Smith Dairy.

Last year, Smith Dairy introduced dual fuel conversion engines into their power unit fleet. Of Smith Dairy’s 175 truck units, 26 currently utilize dedicated CNG or dual fuel CNG units, with plans for an additional 16 dual fuel systems in the next calendar year. The dual fuel units are powered by the EcoDual MAX/SRTM Dual Fuel System, which utilizes both diesel and natural gas to improve mileage without compromising engine performance. The MAX/SRTM Dual Fuel System utilizes CNG that is cleaner, less expensive and more environmentally sustainable than diesel, and offers the most reliable substitution rate in the industry.

“Smith Dairy’s NGV award is much deserved,” said Mike Donoughe, CEO of EcoDual, Inc. “The leadership the Smith Dairy team is providing to the industry through its adoption of natural gas-powered vehicles is paving a path for other fleets to follow. Their team’s commitment to its community and its partners is establishing a strong foundation for future growth for their company, the state of Ohio and the industry. EcoDual is proud to be a part of the Smith Dairy family.”

Since becoming a core part of Smith Dairy’s investment in environmentally-friendly solutions, EcoDual has helped the company reduce its annual diesel consumption by nearly 200,000 gallons or 22 percent.

Additionally, Smith Dairy has installed a publicly accessible CNG fueling station. The station has become a part of the company’s facility tours, serving as a platform to discuss the purposes and consequences of CNG and diesel with the community. Both Smith Dairy and EcoDual are looking forward to future collaborations in promoting natural gas as a clean and affordable alternative to diesel.
