At a ceremony held during the North American Meat Association's Outlook Conference, the Meat Industry Hall of Fame inducted NAMA CEO Barry Carpenter into its 2013 class. The Induction Ceremony and Dinner was held on the evening of November 3, 2013, at The Drake Hotel, Chicago, IL.
As a former senior executive with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a meat industry leader, Barry was selected for the Meat Industry Hall of Fame for his integrity and outstanding contribution to the meat industry.
“It’s a great honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside such a distinguished group,” said Carpenter, “and it has been an even greater honor to serve this amazing industry over the years.”
Carpenter assumed his current position February 1, 2007, following a 37 year career with USDA, where he administered USDA’s Livestock and Seed Program. He was responsible for directing numerous functions vital to the marketing of livestock and meat in both U.S. and international markets.
His involvement has enhanced America’s meat sector, and the Meat Industry Hall of Fame induction celebrates this service. The 2013 class is the fifth group of meat and poultry industry leaders to be inducted. To date, it has inducted 67 distinguished participants.
Others inducted this year include Dr. Michael Dikeman, Professor of Meat Science at Kansas State University; Sheldon Lavin, Chairman and CEO of OSI Group, LLC; Dr. Tom Pierson, Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University; Dr. James “Bo” Reagan, past Vice President of the NCBA Research and Knowledge Management Center; and Roger Reiser, President of Reiser.
