WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Sabra® Dipping Company, in conjunction with Fencing in the Schools, today announced the launch of the "Sabra for Sabres" sweepstakes, which gives hummus fans and fencing enthusiasts the chance to win a complete fencing program for their school of choice. The winning school will get everything it needs to launch the athletic program, including a special visit and demonstration by Olympic Silver Medalist Tim Morehouse and Fencing World Champion Miles Chamley-Watson. The sweepstakes will run from September 30 – October 31, 2013 and can be entered at www.fencingintheschools.org. A video about the project is available at http://bit.ly/sabraforsabres.
"As an Olympic athlete, I have always powered my days with delicious and healthy food. Sabra hummus has been a favorite part of my training for years, and I am so excited to partner with them to bring my sport to kids across the country," said Tim Morehouse. "Most people have seen fencing on TV during the summer Olympics, but may not realize how easily accessible it is, or the profound impact it can have on a child's physical and mental development. Fencing changed my entire life, and I want every child in the country to have the opportunity to try the sport. With Sabra's help, we hope to bring fencing to one million children in the next ten years."
The winning school will receive 30 sets of KIDS KIT Fencing Equipment from Absolute Fencing Gear, professional fencing instructor training from the FITS staff, a special demonstration by Olympic Silver Medalist Tim Morehouse and World Champion Miles Chamley-Watson, and a Sabra Hummus Healthy Snacks Prize Package.
The ease of access is one of fencing's main draws. Unlike many sports, fencing does not require specialized fields or courts and can be played in any open space from cafeterias to classrooms, making it perfect for urban areas with limited space for physical education.
"Be it cooking, traveling, or even fencing, we want to give everyone the opportunity to pursue the things they are passionate about and dip life to the fullest," said Greg Greene, Sabra Marketing Director. "We are so inspired by Olympic athletes who give back and are proud to team with Morehouse to bring fencing to schools."
Sabra is the maker of the country's best selling hummus, as well as more than a dozen varieties of delicious dips and spreads, including fresh refrigerated salsa, all natural guacamole and Greek yogurt vegetable dip.
