The Sartori cheese company has been around for four generations, beginning in 1939. Always a successful brand, Sartori really struck gold in the gourmet cheese market in 1999 when they developed Bella Vitano Gold, which is still riding high in the cheese world, having just won the coveted Grand Champion designation at the 2013 World Dairy Expo in Wisconsin.
A sweet, nutty, buttery Parmesan-type cheese made of pasteurized cows’ milk, Bella Vitano is softer and creamier than Italian Parmigiano.
Bella Vitano is widely available in local groceries in its original gold form or enhanced by numerous coatings applied to the outside of the wheels. Until recently, options have been raspberry, balsamic, espresso, black pepper and merlot wine. In 2012, however, Sartori introduced their newest and most interesting coating yet: chai tea.
This year, in July, the new version of Bella Vitano won Best New Dairy Product at the 2013 International Cheese Awards in Nantwich, England.
