Salinas Festival Hosted By Colorful Harvest Brings Family Fun To Friday Night

Salinas, CA – Friday evening August 23rd in downtown Salinas was filled with music and the sound of happy families attending the first annual FAMILY FUN HARVEST FESTIVAL.  The admission free festival, hosted by Colorful Harvest, a local grower / shipper of fresh fruit and vegetables, was held to remind residents of the goodness of Salinas and to raise funds for programs to help the community put on by the First Presbyterian Church of Salinas (FPC).

Attendance exceeded expectations as people flowed into the park-like location to enjoy the festival’s attractions.  “The crowd was great!” said Doug Ranno of Colorful Harvest.  Total visitors at the 4 hour event were estimated at approximately 1000 people, with about 400 – 600 on the grounds at any given time.  “Everyone enjoyed themselves.  And many people said that Salinas needs more events like this to remind everyone of what a nice place Salinas really is,” said Ranno.

The evening included live entertainment from local favorites Samz School of Rock, BC Blues, and featured entertainers THE CHICANO ALL STARS.  A kids’ fun zone put on by FPC, and Central Coast College delighted kids of all ages with activities, games and prizes.  A pair of superbly restored classic cars flanked the stage while a number of modern muscle cars on display added to the excitement.  Attendees enjoyed hot BBQ tri-tip, hamburgers and hot dogs, plus wine tasting for the adults.   A farmers market supplied through donations from local growers made available delicious fresh fruits and vegetables at bargain prices.  Local companies supplying the farmers market through their donations included Church Brothers, Colorful Harvest, Taylor Farms, International Produce Group (IPG), New Star Fresh Foods, D’Arrigo Brothers, Mann Packing, Custom Produce, Dynamic Food Group, and Hibino Farms.  Drew Massa Trucking and Pacific Ag Rentals donated essential equipment and logistics services.

Mike Ladra, FPC Senior Pastor said, “The festival reflects the philosophy behind FPC community services; open to everyone in our community whether you’re a church goer or not.”  Ladra, dressed in his trademark Hawaiian shirt, blended with the happy crowd as he spread his message one on one.  And while Ranno sat in with the band on the final set, playing a Musical Harvest red corn guitar, the crowd danced the night away.
