ALBERTON, PE – A better job needs to be done of marketing Canadian lobster overseas, especially in places like China, suggests Prince Edward Island Fishermen’s Association managing director Ian MacPherson.
MacPherson said Canadian lobster is generally viewed and promoted in China as Boston lobster. That, he admits might have something to do with the lobster’s scientific name, Homarus americanus, or American lobster.
“As Canada and P.E.I, we need to get over there and differentiate and change some of those perceptions.,” MacPherson suggested.
The PEI Fishermen’s Association has ramped up its promotional activities this year with several initiatives directed specifically at visitors to P.E.I., but MacPherson admits more work still has to be done across Canada and internationally.
