GREENVILLE, S.C. — Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College in Greenville, is pleased to host U.S. Pastry Chef of the Year Ben Shelton for a pastry demonstration and lecture to be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at its campus located at 78 Global Drive. Shelton recently received first place honors and was named U.S. Pastry Chef of the Year at the 24th Annual U.S. Pastry Competition, one of America's most prestigious pastry competitions. The event took place at the International Restaurant and Foodservice Show of New York. Shelton achieved the esteemed title of Pastry Chef of the Year with his winning creation titled "Origins," which consisted of three components: a chocolate oriented showpiece and blown sugar; an entremet comprised of chocolate, passion fruit, banana and hazelnut layers; and praline bonbons.

"We are excited to have Chef Shelton come speak to our students and prospective students and demonstrate his love of pastry arts to them," says Chef Mark Bergstrom, program director of Culinard in Greensville. "Chef Shelton's appearance is something everyone is looking forward to seeing and his demonstration is sure to be a first class lesson in pastry expertise."
