Watsonville, CA – Everyone at California Giant Berry Farms left their desks empty today as they all took on a cause in the kitchen and at the BBQ pit making skirt steak BBQ lunches for the community. This year marks the 9th annual Skirt Steak Fundraiser BBQ and the staff was very pleased at how the community rallied to support the cause.
Over 800 lunches were prepared by the staff and served to members of the community benefiting five local charities. Jacob’s Heart Foundation, Children’s Hospice, CASA of Santa Cruz County, Hospice of Santa Cruz, and Women’s Crisis Support. Each charitable organization was on hand at the BBQ to share information about what they do in the community and to thank everyone picking up lunch for their support.
Over 100 of the lunches were purchased by allied organizations of California Giant like trucking companies, customers and trade publications as donations. Each of those industry friends wanted to support the cause but couldn’t be on hand to share in the meal so they asked that their lunch be donated within the community. Because of that generosity, California Giant was able to provide 100 meals to the Pajaro Valley Rescue Mission.
“It was great to see our employees working together to support so many worthy organizations, and bring so many members of our community together for a good cause”, says Bill Moncovich, President of California Giant. “We continue to be impressed by our staff as they show passion for volunteerism and support the community with a variety of fundraisers all year long” adds Moncovich.
At the end of the day, the Company BBQ held by California Giant Berry Farms staff raised over $10,000 to be shared by the charitable groups.
