AVO, GA. — Fifteen miles northeast of Thomasville lies an open, grassy pasture where munching cows gather around a mister during the hot summer day.
Kyle and Janelle Wehner milk these grass-fed cows year-round to make yogurt for their company, Dreaming Cow Creamery. New Zealand educated, the Wehners learned about sustainable, rotation-style grazing methods they use. Cows are able to eat grass, which is healthier for them than grain, and don’t receive hormone supplements — and neither does the yogurt.
“We believe happy cows are healthy cows which become profitable cows,” said Kyle, 30. “There’s this symbiotic relationship between the cows and land where they’re constantly improving the soil with carbon. This allows cows to function as they were intended to.”
