Gilroy, CA – The first bin of Monviso California Heirloom Garlic has arrived into Gilroy just in time for the 35th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival. The exclusive heirloom garlic; Monviso is the official garlic used by the Festival. Don Christopher was one of the original Gilroy Garlic Festival founders and has been actively involved since a Rotary Garlic Luncheon in 1978.
Monviso Garlic is at the foundation of the company’s premium garlic tradition. Over 50 years ago, Don Christopher came upon the most flavorful variety of garlic he ever tasted. As its origins were in the Piedmont area of Italy, he christened the variety “Monviso” for the region’s peaks and immediately set about nurturing the seed in California.
