CANBY, Ore.– Terra Nova Nurseries announced four new echinacea varieties now available to garden centers, including Echinacea ‘Chiquita’, Echinacea ‘Rosita’, Echinacea ‘Glowing Dream’, and Echinacea ‘Sunbird’. The vibrant color combination of these varieties enable garden center owners to design creative merchandising displays for the summer season.
Echinacea 'Chiquita', part of the Prairie Pixies™ series, has large banana-colored blooms and an upright habit. Only 14" tall at maturity, the clean, deep green foliage covers this plant from top to bottom. This fragrant echinacea blooms from July to September and is deer-resistant, drought-tolerant and attracts butterflies as well as hummingbirds.
Echinacea ‘Rosita’ is sister to Echinacea ‘Chiquita’ in habit and bloom count. The fourth addition to Terra Nova Nurseries’ Prairie Pixies series, ‘Rosita’ is a dwarf coneflower that has soft pink flowers and a showy center cone. It blooms from July through October and the average size includes 14” Width / 14” Height / 16” Flower Height.
Echinacea 'Glowing Dream’ adds a unique color to the company’s Dream™ series, which includes ‘Amazing Dream’, ‘Daydream’ and ‘Tangerine Dream’. It boasts intense, glowing, watermelon-coral pink flowers. This new compact, floriferous echinacea also has E. tennesseensis breeding, which imparts a great habit and a great crown.
Echinacea ‘Sunbird’ is the third addition to the company’s Echinacea Bird™ series, and like Echinacea 'Firebird', it has a wonderful habit and compact size. This variety has gold shuttlecock-shaped flowers that hold their color throughout its unusually long life span. A fragrant cut flower, ‘Sunbird’ also works well in mass landscapes and mixed beds.
Terra Nova Nurseries has created “Plant Profile” pages specific to these introductions that feature key plant characteristics. They can be viewed and downloaded for printing at www.terranovanurseries.com.
