Moo & Oink has been selected as the official meat supplier for the 24th annual Father’s Day event Real Men Cook® from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Ray and Joan Kroc Salvation Army Center, 1250 W. 119th St., Chicago.
Real Men Cook is a Father’s Day celebration of family, community and fatherhood at which “real men” cook up some delectable dishes and serious fun. The annual urban family food-tasting celebration benefits local nonprofit organizations.
Moo & Oink will donate rib tips, turkey mild links, hot dogs, Polish sausage, High Five beef patties, turkey burgers, beef hot links, High Five BBQ sauce, spices and rubs.
Robert M. Beavers, Jr., is chairman and CEO of Best Chicago Meat Company, the parent company of Moo & Oink. As a former member of the board of directors of McDonald’s, he observed first-hand the benevolent generosity and community spirit of founder Ray Kroc and his wife Joan, and later Fred Turner as president of McDonald’s.
“The Kroc’s gave millions to the Salvation Army and the center named for them,” Beavers said. “Their generosity has served as inspiration for Best Chicago Meat Co.’s philanthropic philosophy. Moo & Oink is proud to support events such as Real Men Cook, and it is our goal to continue the vital legacy of giving back. It’s especially meaningful that Real Men Cook is being held at Ray and Joan Kroc Salvation Army Center.”
Real Men Cook was founded to promote positive images of men in relationship to their families and communities. Annually, more than 1,200 men volunteer nationally to cook for nearly 30,000 attendees. Real Men Cook has changed the way Father’s Day is celebrated and has uplifted the importance of fathers and men stepping forward.
The Real Men Cook event has generated over $1 million to community nonprofits. President Barack Obama, Congressman Danny Davis, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Lennox Lewis, Steve Harvey, Art Norman and hundreds of politicians, celebrities and athletes have participated over the past 24 years.
“The 24th Annual Real Men Cook marks a new beginning as we invite the next generation to join us to make difference,” said Rael Jackson, the newly appointed president of Real Men Cook.
Jackson’s appointment answers the call for second generation legacy leadership. His parents launched Real Men Cook 24 years ago.
This year’s Real Men Cook presents a Gospel Explosion featuring Chicago church choirs, liturgical dancers and bands. There will also be a Kids Zone with pony rides, face painting and interactive games, health and wellness pavilions with free health screenings.
