Now in its third year, Pastry Live will once again bring to Atlanta a taste of the industry’s top pastry talents. To be held August 25th, 26th and 27th, leading pastry artists will share invaluable techniques, while veteran chefs and rising stars contend in fierce competitions. Seminar attendees will get to experience incredible airbrushing, mouthwatering candies, ornate sugar-work, elaborate cake artistry and more.
Held at the Retreat at Perimeter Summit, Pastry Live’s various competitions will take place over the course of three days and include the Art of Cake, the Chocolatier of the Year, the National Showpiece Championship, the Signature Plated Dessert and the Student Chocolate Challenge. Starting off the event on Sunday, August 25th will be the Student Chocolate Challenge, offering students the opportunity to experience the world of culinary competitions first hand. Soon to follow is the Art of Cake which calls for competitors to transform cake into creations inspired by great artists and art time periods of the past, the 2013 theme being Art Nouveau. Closing out the day’s competitions will be the Chocolatier of the Year, highlighting the nation’s top chocolate artisans. Attendees will have the chance to be judges for the day through an audience taste test and vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice Award.
Also occurring on Sunday, August 25th is the newest addition to the event, Pastry Atlanta, featuring the best pastry chefs in the city. Each will be sharing their delicious work with Pastry Live’s audience in hopes of having the top pastry creation. Current participants include the Four Seasons, High Road Craft Ice Cream and Sorbet, the Spence and Seed Kitchen and Bar.
On Monday, August 26th, pastry chefs from restaurants and hotels across the country will compete in the Signature Plated Dessert competition which encourages chefs to craft elegant, revolutionary creations displaying their culinary flair. One of the centerpieces of the event, the National Showpiece Championship, will then take place on the final day of Tuesday, August 27th. Eight teams of two chefs will vie for the title of National Showpiece Champion and a cash prize of $5,000. Each will have only seven hours in which to prepare and present their showpieces and must choose from either chocolate or sugar to showcase their talent and ingenuity.
In addition to each competition, multiple seminars featuring the top names in the industry will be held on both Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th. Various topics will be covered during each seminar, offering cutting edge techniques and top level training. Chefs Jerome Landrieu, Ewald Notter and Susan Notter are just a few of the leading professionals who will be presenters during this year’s demonstrations.
