SPARTA — Mark Wells and Travis Brooks are cousins who both grew up on farms near Leon, south of Sparta.
At the end of December, they also became the owners of Foss Fine Meats at 325 W. Wisconsin St. in Sparta, which father and son Mel and Gerry Foss started in 1939.
Wells manages the meat market, while Brooks is busy operating another local business, Brooks Excavating.
The two men bought the meat business, which also includes a livestock slaughter facility, from Wayne Selbrede. He had owned it since 1999.
