Schenectady, NY – The Charles Freihofer Baking Company was presented with a key to the City of Schenectady by Mayor Gary R. McCarthy, who recognized the baking company’s 100th anniversary and dedication to the surrounding communities as the “Pride of the Neighborhood.” The presentation took place today at Schenectady City Hall.
“Over the past 100 years, Freihofer’s has remained a staple in our homes and family traditions,” said Schenectady Mayor Gary R. McCarthy. “The many ways Freihofer’s has enhanced and supported our communities is a testament to the character and integrity of the company, which is why we’re thrilled to honor them with a key to our city that it’s heavily impacted.”
Following the press conference and dedication, the Mayor along with Freihofer’s associates jump started their “The More You Get, The More We Give” campaign by distributing loaves of bread to those in attendance. This is the first of many bread giveaways that will take place throughout the year, as Freihofer’s has scheduled several in various markets throughout the northeast region.
With this campaign, free loaves of bread will be handed out at both planned events and random locations to attendees while supplies last; the number of loaves distributed during these events will be matched in a donation to a previously determined food bank or charity. Freihofer’s will give away up to 1,000 loaves per event at approximately 20 events between now and the end of the year, totaling to approximately 40,000 loaves of bread that will be given to consumers and charitable organizations throughout the year.
Charles Freihofer Baking Company kicked off its year-long 100th anniversary celebration last month on March 12 with the unveiling of the honorary “Freihofer’s Way” street sign by Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings located on Prospect Avenue, the home of Freihofer’s bread bakery.
Continuing the Celebration
To offer all customers an opportunity to join in the celebration, Freihofer’s is hosting an Anniversary iPod Giveaway on Facebook that will reward one winner for entering the sweepstakes every Wednesday through June 20. In addition to the iPad giveaway, at participating retailers, customers will find a Freihofer’s old-time favorite, the hermit cookie, accompanied by other limited time product offerings, including the new celebration cookie and bite-size oatmeal raisin cookie. The famous Freihofer’s chocolate chip cookies will be in special anniversary packaging and many loaves of bread will highlight the anniversary ribbon with the Freihofer’s Large White loaf featuring all-new anniversary wrapping. All limited edition products can be purchased through the end of 2013, while supplies last.
