A new manufacturer is giving Cherokee County some flour power.
Toronto-based artisan bread maker ACE Bakery on Tuesday officially opened the doors to its first baking facility in the United States in the renovated former Romeo Rim plant at 131 Corporate Drive in Gaffney. The 60,000-square-foot represents an $18.4 million investment and 51 new jobs.
At full capacity, it will be able to produce up to 32 million baguettes per year. End to end, that is enough to stretch from Gaffney to France, where the baguette originated, and back to Gaffney again.
"We are very excited about today," said Lee Andrews, president of ACE Bakery. "We identified the location back in June … so this is a relatively short turnaround for us."
