WASHINGTON, D.C. The All Membership Meeting on Sunday, April 21 at the upcoming 2013 ABA Convention in Aventura, Fla., will feature a roundtable discussion with ABA’s Policy Committee Chairs. The discussion will focus on how ABA can be effective despite gridlock in Washington. The panel of industry experts will highlight the priorities ABA’s policy committees will seek to achieve this year in benefiting the baking industry as a whole.
“This is both an opportunity to hear about the extraordinary efforts of ABA’s policy committees,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie, “and for the membership to provide insight and guidance on the priorities for the baking industry. I encourage all ABA members to join us for this important dialogue.”
The ABA Policy Committee Chairs recently met in January for a Strategic Planning Session, during which time they had the opportunity to discuss their respective committee’s progress in achieving its goals over the last few years. Based on this exercise, ABA is able to evaluate its position and resources, and prioritize the well over 50 regulatory and legislative issues it covers. During the roundtable session at the All Membership Meeting, the ABA Committee Chairs will present their respective committee’s one or two top policy priorities that it hopes to accomplish for the industry in 2013, as emanated from the Strategic Planning Session.
The discussion will be moderated by ABA PAC Chairman Steve Avera, Senior Vice President & General Counsel at Flowers Foods, and will be followed by a Q&A session designed to spark a lively exchange between the panel and the audience. ABA members are encouraged to be prepared to offer feedback and fully participate in the session.
The 2013 ABA Convention is the premier industry event of the year. This year’s theme, “Staying Ahead of the Curve When You Don’t Know What’s Around the Bend,” is a nod to the constantly changing trends, shifting consumer tastes, new technology, government regulations and the almost impossible task of staying current and competitive in today’s marketplace.
