Cut amaryllis flowers as a symbol of Christmas?

“Yes, why not?” asks Fabiola Prins, brandishing a whopping bouquet of the trumpet-shaped blooms. “They’re perfect.”

She has a point. The most popular kind of amaryllis in the world is called Red Lion. Its brilliant scarlet petals would fit in nicely with our festive season. And these specimens of hers are so enormous, they’d certainly outshine pots of poinsettias plonked in my living room over the holidays.
