SALINAS, Calif. – Each year Tanimura & Antle supports the Salinas Salvation Army donating fresh produce and the use of their refrigerated distribution center to provide 1000 families in the Salinas community with a brighter holiday. This year Tanimura & Antle employees amplified this annual contribution by raising a total of $10,000 for the Salinas Salvation Army Holiday Food and Toy Drive.
To fill holiday food and toy packages for Salinas families in need, the Salinas Salvation Army depends on support from local companies, the Salvation Army red kettles outside of retail locations and the annual KSBW Share Your Holiday event. This year, Tanimura & Antle employees contributed out of their own pockets to ensure success of the food drive. “We heard that last year there was a shortage of turkeys for the food baskets, so we wanted to contribute what we could this year, to make sure that didn’t happen again. It was a great team effort by everyone,” comments Colin Horwitz of Tanimura & Antle, the organizer of the employee donation effort.
The Salvation Army's efforts culminate on December 15th, where in one day; hundreds of families will receive their holiday packages including blankets, $100 of groceries, and toys for an estimated 2,500 children. Major Kris Potter, who oversees the Salinas Salvation Army says, “The produce donation from Tanimura & Antle puts a “WOW” factor into our Christmas food boxes making them the healthiest in the country. The Salvation Army distribution center located at Tanimura & Antle is without a doubt the best space possible in Salinas and for three weeks in December it is a beacon of hope to literally thousands of Salinas Valley families.”
