Beef Month is here! On September 19th, 2012 leaders from the Alabama Cattlemen's Association were on site for Governor Robert Bentley to proclaim October as Beef Month in Alabama. Each year, this month is dedicated to promoting and educating consumers about beef and the hardworking farm families that raise cattle.
The 20,000 cattle farmers in the state own 1.2 million head and sell around $350 million of calves annually. Beef cattle rank 2nd to the poultry industry among all Alabama commodities in cash receipts received.
Now that October is here, events and promotions will be held across the state of Alabama to remind consumers "BEEF: It's What's For Dinner". One way for consumers to become involved is to participate in a sweepstakes on www.al.com. When consumers see the advertisement for "Beef Month", they can click on the banner and sign up for a chance to win a Tailgate Prize Package complete with a beef check, tailgate grill, beef cookbook among other beef materials for all of your tailgating needs.
In addition, county cattlemen's associations will be joining in the promotion fun by hosting steak sandwich sales and participating at local fairs to honor beef during the month.
ACA President, Donna Jo Curtis of Athens, AL says "October is a wonderful month for consumers to be reminded of how delicious and important beef is in a healthy diet. We encourage all of the grill masters and tailgaters across the state to keep beef on the grill this fall. We are very excited to see all of our efforts work together to increase beef demand across the state of Alabama".
