Lonrho Division Gains Exclusive Tuna Fishing Rights

Lonrho's Oceanfresh seafood division has been granted exclusive tuna fishing rights in Mozambique.

Oceanfresh has been given the rights for five years with a tuna quota set at 12,000 tonnes per year, said the African conglomerate.

They are for the 12 mile territorial waters and the 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

Mozambique's rich waters are renowned for their yellowfin and bigeye tuna during the prime November-May season, when top quality product will be exported to Japan.

Fish caught throughout the year will be processed into frozen steaks and loins for the USA market, said Lonrho.
