New York, NY and St. Louis, MO — BrightFarms, Inc. and Schnuck Markets, Inc. have announced a partnership to build a greenhouse for the 99-store St. Louis-based supermarket chain. BrightFarms will finance, build, and operate a greenhouse to supply Schnucks customers with fresh, local produce year-round.
BrightFarms’ greenhouse will allow Schnucks, which already buys directly from growers, to offer customers even more local produce. A local farmer, in partnership with BrightFarms, will operate the greenhouse and deliver the freshest possible produce to Schnucks within hours of harvest.
“Schnucks customers will have the opportunity to truly know their farmer,” said Paul Lightfoot, BrightFarms CEO. “We’re excited to partner with Schnucks, which shares our deep commitment to fresh, quality products and to its customers.”
Mike O’Brien, Schnucks Vice President of Produce said, “We are committed to procuring produce from local growers and this will increase significantly once we bring BrightFarms on board. This partnership is in line with our mission to cut the travel time for produce in order to deliver the freshest foods possible to our customers.”
