Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board Launches Online Newsroom

NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB) has re-launched its former newsroom, louisianaseafoodnews.com, an online newsroom that will be a resource for the seafood industry and media nationwide offering the latest news about the Louisiana seafood industry.

The newsroom, which was re-launched just shy of the 7th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, is intended to provide a news resource for media for the latest industry developments. With Hurricane Isaac fast approaching the Louisiana coastline, LSPMB re-opened the site to communicate frequently updated information related to the storm and the seafood industry's preparations and response.

"The newsroom has been a useful vehicle to inform media and others interested in significant issues affecting the Louisiana seafood industry," said Ewell Smith, LSPMB Executive Director. "With Hurricane Isaac bearing down on our Gulf coast, this was the perfect opportunity to support our industry and let the newsroom again do what it is meant to do."

The first story posted to the newsroom, entitled "Fishermen Prepare as Hurricane Isaac Takes Aim at New Orleans" highlights the challenges longtime industry fishermen are used to facing with tropical storms and hurricanes — but also the possible positive effects storms can bring long-term, like bringing in shrimp from offshore.

"We have done a fair amount of industry education on the newsroom site, often including nuances people didn't know about an issue," said Smith. "What always stays with readers is the steadfast spirit of our Louisiana fishermen," said Smith.

In addition to up-to-date information about issues affecting the Louisiana seafood industry, high-resolution photos and video in broadcast quality HD are available to media at Louisianaseafoodnews.com.

LSPMB was created in 1984 by the state of Louisiana to support their vast historical commercial fisheries industry. The Board is composed of 15 members and each member represents a sector of the industry: harvesters, processors, wholesalers, restaurateurs/retailers, fisheries resource managers, public health officers and marketing specialists.
