Beechwood Cheese Co., a small cheese producer in Sheboygan County with roots dating to the late 19th century, has filed for receivership.
The business and an associated firm, Bullpen Enterprises 1598 LLC, together listed debts totaling $1.2 million. Their combined assets carry a book value of $335,000, but would bring less on the market, according to a court document filed by the receiver, Seth Dizard.
Beechwood operates a store in the village of the same name and sells its cheese to several retail grocers in southeastern Wisconsin.
The firm remains open and is continuing to fill its supply contracts, Dizard said. He said chances are good that Beechwood can be sold as a going business. The brand has value, and Beechwood has a niche in flavored cheeses, Dizard said.
